My approach to mentoring and coaching is to assist the business owner discover and develop their own best solution to their challenge. This is in contrast to an approach of recommending a solution. The benefit of my approach is that the client learns from the process and owns the outcome. I also operate in a monitoring role during the implementation phase to further benefit the client by assisting them achieve their milestones and goals.

Qualifications, Academic Background
Master of Economics. Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Management. In addition, I have completed numerous management courses including Professional Business Coaching, and become an accomplished public speaker through Toastmasters.

Core Experience
Full time work experience in a wide range of organisations over the past 40 years. During this period I have had many roles from technical specialist to Chairman and CEO. I have been directly involved in eight start up businesses. I have also been Chairman of a publicly listed company, Chairman of a statutory authority, a non-executive director of a private company and an executive director of a private company. During these experiences I developed core skills in business planning, dispute resolution and meeting management which have assisted in developing my specialist skills.

Industry Experience
Industry experience as a full time executive includes telecommunications (Bell Canada, OTC, Clear Communications NZ), government (Austel), and publishing & broadcasting (PBL). Since becoming an IIB accredited associate in mid 2004 I have undertaken advisory work in a range of manufacturing and service industries as well as for not for profit community groups.

Specialist Experience
In mid 1997 I ceased being a full time executive manager and established and began operating my own business advisory service. In recent years I have directed this service to SMEs, focusing on mentoring, business planning and meeting facilitation using my core business experience. I have worked with managing directors, management teams, and senior executives both in a group format and one-on-one. This work has been across a wide range of industries and for varying periods as determined by the client.
